Alvis Upitis is the photographer of seven children’s books. He has worked for
many years as a commercial photographer, with images published in Car&Driver,
Newsweek, Time, Fortune,
Money, National Geographic and more. He was Founding
President of the Minneapolis Chapter of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP).
He worked for Eastman Kodak on research and development of experimental color films.
Mr. Upitis was an associate professor and senior photography instructor at the Minneapolis College
of Art and Design for nine years, teaching all phases of color and black-and-white photography
as applied to design, fine arts and journalism. He has traveled and photographed extensively
throughout the fifty United States, as well as in Asia, the British Isles, Europe, Middle East,
Southeast Asia, Far East, and South America. Based in Minneapolis for thirty years,
Mr. Upitis now lives on the Big Island of Hawaii. He shoots throughout the Hawaiian Islands and the Pacific Rim.
